…Parents, Community Leaders Commend The Efforts Of The Rector, Other Stakeholders
The Federal Polytechnic Monguno, Borno State has successfully conducted its maiden matriculation ceremony for the pioneer students.
The event which brings to light the matriculation of 389 pioneer students was held on 6th March, 2024 at the temporary site of the Polytechnic in Monguno town, Borno State.
The ceremony was attended by the Rector, Engr. Prof. Garba Mohammed Ngala FNSE MNIMechE ably represented by the Deputy Rector, Musa Mohammed Grandawa; the Registrar, Adamu Alhaji Usman, Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Commander, Sector 3 Multi National Joint Task Force Monguno,the Executive Chairman Monguno Local Government Council, District Head of Monguno and other distinguished guests.
The matriculation ceremony is a solemn occasion that marks the formal admission of students into the Polytechnic. It is also a time to celebrate their achievements and aspirations, as well as to welcome them into the academic community.
The Polytechnic which was established in the year 2021 had since started lectures, it has commenced with eight cutting edge programmes structured into eight departments and domiciled into three schools, according to the Registrar.
The Rector appreciates the students for their dedication and determination at the same time urged them to uphold the values and standards of the institution, and to make the most of the opportunities and resources available to them.
The Rector, on behalf of the management, staff and students thanks His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum mni FNSE, CON for his immense support towards Federal Polytechnic Monguno since from inception to date, “words can’t quantify how grateful we are for what you have done to us Your Excellency, may God Almighty reward you abundantly” he added.
Some of His Excellency`s interventions include: the provision of well equiped temporary site for immediate take-off, provision of well furnished houses for the principal officers, award of scholarship to 20 students from each of the 27 LGAs of Borno State as well as 100 million take off grant.
Prof. Ngala acknowledged with thanks the support and cooperation received from the security agencies particularly Nigerian Army since from establishment to this historic occasion. He however applauded the various interventions of Sen. Mohammed Tahir Monguno Esq, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judicial, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
The projects executed by the Senator include: two number of 18 seater buses, construction of 4 parameter wall around the permanent site, construction of male and female hostels, construction of modern ICT complex and installation of solar powered security light at both the temporary and permanent site.
While cautioning the students the Rector said “Polytechnic had zero tolerance for anti-social behaviour, especially examination malpractice, indecent dressing, drug abuse, unlawful associations and other vices.”
He further highlighted the various academic and extracurricular activities that they can participate in during their stay in the Polytechnic. He encouraged them to explore their interests and talents, and to develop their skills and potentials. He also reminded them of their responsibilities and obligations as members of the Polytechnic, and advised them to abide by the rules and regulations.
The Registrar, Adamu Alhaji Usman administered the matriculation oath, which was recited by all the students. The oath signifies their commitment and loyalty to the Federal Polytechnic Monguno, and their pledge to uphold its honor and dignity. The students then signed the matriculation register, which officially confirmed their enrollment in the Polytechnic.
On this remarkable achievement, the parents of the pioneer students as well as community leaders have commended the Rector for his exemplary, unique and selfless style of leadership and their urged him to sustain the vigor he has established in steering the affairs of the Polytechnic.
